Introduction of Bridge Works

The bridge engineering design specialty of SMEDI was founded in 1957. At the beginning, there were only 15 professional technicians. After the pioneering work for 40 odd years, there are about 70 professional technicians, among them 30 senior engineers including the professor senior engineers headed by the state class great master of design Mr. Lin Yuanpei, and including about 20 state class I registered structural engineers.

Over 40 years, SMEDI has designed hundreds items of various bridge projects every city of our country, in which including the large span prestressed T-type rigid structure bridge, continuous girder bridge, continuous rigid structure bridge, cable-stayed bridge, arched bridge, suspension bridge and etc. SMEDI has the ability to undertake the design of various large-size high-difficulty bridge works. The design technique of the large span cable stayed bridge represented by Shanghai Nanpu Bridge and Yangpu Bridge has been in the forefront of the world. Shanghai Xupu bridge under construction is the half through arched girder combined system bridge with 550-m main span. The span is the first one in the same kind bridge of the world.

SMEDI attaches importance to the development and application of the new technique and new structure, at the same time, completes a large quantity of bridge works. Since the 1960s, SMEDI has combined with the engineering practice to complete the study of ¡°Bridge Space Design Theory¡±, ¡°Design and Construction of Large Span concrete Cable Stayed Bridge¡±, ¡°Bridge Overall Stability Design Theory¡± and etc., developed and researched the special bridge products of the bridge plate rubber bearing, the large tonnage cold cast anchor, twist parallel steel wire finished cable and etc. The achievements of the relative departments are publicly issued in the special books of <<Design and Construction of Liuzhou Bridge>>, <<Prestressed T-type Rigid Structure Bridge>>, <<bridge Structure Statics>>, <<Cable Stayed Bridge>> and etc.

To now, the bridge works designed by SMEDI has won 2 grade I prizes of science and technology advancement and 1 silver prize of the state, 1 grade IV invention prize of the state, 16 special grade and grade I, II and III prizes of science and technology advancement of the ministry and the municipality, 1 special prize of excellent design, 8 gold medal prizes, 1 silver metal prize, 1 copper metal prize of the state, 26 grade I, II and III prizes of excellent design of the ministry and the municipality. Mr. Lin Yuanpei, the great master of design, won the First Mao Yishen Bridge Great Prize.

SMEDI successively took part in the loaned projects at home and abroad, and tendering the design schemes of the foreign bridge. The design scheme of Hongkong Angchuanzhou Bridge, the 1000-m main span of the cable stayed bridge, that SMEDI took part in was won the first of the scheme competition of this project. For the bridge design, SMEDI will continuously persist in the development road of ¡°Practice ¨C Exploration ¨C Creativity¡±, constantly enhance the technical level, warmly provide the good service to the construction units, further contribute our share for the bridge cause of our country.
